Many motifs [in the paintings] are inspired by looking at the works of old masters. Hoch speaks here of ‘inducements to paint.’ These inducements … can admittedly not be reconstructed merely by looking at her paintings and are hence of secondary importance to the immediate understanding of her body of work. Nonetheless, they point to the long tradition of the genre of painting, of which the artist is well aware and which she consequently incorporates into her work.
